Mollie completes GoCardless acquisition
Mollie has completed its acquisition of GoCardless, the Dutch payments company announced on September 2. The combined business serves more than 350,000 customers across over 30 markets.
The combination brings together Mollie’s card and local payment methods with GoCardless’s Pay by Bank product, which operates in 38 countries. Mollie said the merged payment suite is intended to let businesses accept payments, manage money and expand within a single provider relationship.
The transaction was first announced on December 11, 2025, with completion expected in the middle of this year. Founded in Amsterdam in 2004, Mollie serves small and medium-sized businesses across Europe. GoCardless, founded in London in 2011, built its business on recurring bank debit collection before expanding into open banking payments.
Bank-based payment methods have drawn increasing investment from European payment companies as account-to-account transfers gain acceptance for recurring billing and higher-value transactions, where card interchange costs weigh more heavily on merchants.
The deal adds to consolidation among European payment providers this year. Nuvei agreed in June to acquire Payoneer for about $2.75 billion, a transaction expected to close in mid-2027, and Adyen completed purchases of the loyalty platform Talon. One and the billing software company Orb on July 1.
