Adyen and TAP add Pix payments at Brazilian airport counters
Adyen and TAP Air Portugal announced on July 22 that they have modernised the airline’s payment infrastructure at Brazilian airports, adding the country’s instant payment system Pix at physical service counters for the first time, according to the companies’ joint announcement. The infrastructure also supports cards and digital wallets including Apple Pay and Google Pay.
The rollout begins at Guarulhos International Airport in Sao Paulo and Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport, known as Galeao, in Rio de Janeiro. Coverage will extend to the other fifteen Brazilian airports the airline serves, according to Brazilian aviation publication Aeroin. The counters handle ticket issuance, changes, upgrades and baggage payments.
“Investing in the modernisation of our technological infrastructure at Brazilian airports is a fundamental step toward elevating our customers’ experience,” said Renato Inacio, chief financial officer of TAP Air Portugal, in the announcement.
Paying by Pix settles the transaction directly in Brazilian reais, which avoids exchange rate movements between the purchase date and a credit card statement closing, as well as fees that can apply to international card purchases, the companies said.
The move extends a partnership between the two companies that began in 2013. Brazil is among the airline’s most strategic markets, and TAP serves more destinations in the country than any other European carrier.
