Flutterwave taps Caliza for dollar accounts and stablecoin rails

Flutterwave has partnered with the financial infrastructure provider Caliza to give African businesses dedicated US dollar accounts connected to domestic and international payment rails, the companies announced on August 13. The accounts link to ACH, Fedwire, RTP and SWIFT, and let customers receive, transfer and convert funds across conventional currencies and stablecoins through the Flutterwave platform.

“We wanted to give African businesses access to global payment infrastructure without passing that complexity on to them,” Flutterwave said in the announcement, describing the arrangement as combining financial services, currencies and payment rails in a single infrastructure layer while the company retains control of the customer experience, according to TechAfrica News.

The infrastructure also supports Flutterwave’s own treasury operations, allowing it to manage dollar and stablecoin balances, fund operating accounts and move large positions across liquidity reserves and custody platforms. The company said the system handles transactions ranging from retail remittances, payroll and supplier payments through to treasury transfers above $1 million.

The partnership is the latest in a series of stablecoin arrangements Flutterwave has assembled over the past year. It made Polygon its default settlement network in October 2025, launched stablecoin balances with Turnkey and Nuvion in January, took a strategic stake from Ripple in June at a $3.2 billion valuation with RLUSD as its default stablecoin, and secured an investment from Circle Ventures in July to add USDC settlement.

Flutterwave says it has processed more than one billion transactions worth over $50 billion across 34 African markets. Cross-border transfers on the continent remain costly, with remittance fees in sub-Saharan Africa averaging about 8.37 percent according to World Bank data, the highest of any region.
