BNP Paribas brings Wero to Fnac Darty and other major French merchants
BNP Paribas announced the accelerated rollout of Wero to merchant and retail customers across Europe at a press conference in Paris on September 8, 2026, according to a statement from Fnac Darty, one of the retailers involved. Fnac Darty, Air France, Decathlon and Orange all appeared alongside representatives of the European Payments Initiative at the event.
Wero for Merchants is built on instant account-to-account transfers, letting a customer pay either through their own bank’s app, without entering card details, or directly through the Wero app. Fnac Darty said it will roll the option out on fnac.com in early 2027, before extending it to physical stores and its other European markets.
“For Fnac Darty, payment is not merely a technical step or a commodity: it is an integral part of the customer experience, a performance driver, and a strategic choice,” chief executive Enrique Martinez said at the event, according to Fnac Darty. He spoke alongside Martina Weimert, chief executive of EPI Company, and Thierry Laborde, deputy chief operating officer of BNP Paribas.
“It’s the merchants’ turn to enter the game,” Laborde said at the press conference, according to FashionNetwork France. Orange’s Sosh mobile brand has let customers pay subscription bills through Wero since September 1. Decathlon, which had already deployed Wero in Germany and Belgium with BNP Paribas on July 20, plans to extend the payment method to France from October. Air France’s director of financing and treasury, Bruno Lecerf, said the airline chose Wero at an early stage because the European interoperability suited a carrier operating across multiple countries.
BNP Paribas said its merchant acceptance for Wero now spans France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg through a single integration, while all of the bank’s French retail customers can now pay online with Wero wherever a merchant offers it, according to Banking 4.0. The Wero app became available in most European app stores on September 7, a week after its Luxembourg rollout replacing Payconiq began.
